On The Bobby Bones Show, a mom named Alyssa from North Carolina called in looking for advice about her 10-year-old daughter’s amazing opportunity, she’s been nominated to attend a leadership and STEM camp next summer.
The camp is five days long and takes place on a college campus. It’s not cheap, about $3,000, but it offers young students hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, art, and math, with each day focused on a different area. Alyssa’s daughter, who dreams of becoming an orthodontist, was so excited that she even started making bracelets to sell to help pay for it. Bobby loved that initiative. He told Alyssa that programs like this can be incredibly beneficial for kids around that age, especially when they show motivation and interest on their own. He also shared that when he was growing up, leadership programs and structured activities like Key Club and Boys State helped teach him discipline and direction.
But he also made sure to keep things real, saying that if the program would cause financial strain, it’s okay to wait. Still, because Alyssa’s daughter was working hard toward her goal, Bobby wanted to support her. He surprised Alyssa by saying he wanted to buy 100 bracelets for $5 each and immediately Venmo her $500 to go toward the camp fund. “Mostly it’s not about me going, ‘Hey, I’ll help,’” Bobby said. “It’s that I think this is amazing. And if you can afford it, do it. And if you still can’t, hit me back and I’ll help you with more.”
Alyssa was thrilled and said her daughter would be so excited when she heard the news. Bobby even joked that he wanted the bracelets in all different colors and that he might sell them for $6 each to make a profit.
