Mike D’s Blog: Losing Weight and Gaining Confidence

My name is Mike and I have body issues.

That may sound weird coming from a guy but it’s something I’ve dealt with my whole life – from my days at 280 pounds to now being in the best shape of my life right at 160 pounds.

Summer is right around the corner and it had me thinking how I’ve always been the guy at the pool with his shirt on. I’ve just never been comfortable being seen without a shirt...even now that I’ve lost weight.

You’d think after losing 120 pounds everything would be awesome. But people would compliment me on how great I looked, meanwhile I still felt heavy on the inside. As a result of losing so much weight, I have some stretch marks around my stomach that I've felt a little insecure about...

Over the last 5 months, I started lifting weights which has helped a lot to sculpt and tone up my new body. Although there are still stretch marks around my stomach, everything has become more toned.

The biggest confidence boost was when my abs started to form. That was totally weird from me. I’d look down to where I use to see a big round belly and now there were these abs starting to form. Strange feeling!

I’m starting to feel now like my outside appearance reflects how I’ve always felt on the inside. I know how hard I’ve worked to get where I am and for the first time have been able to enjoy it.

I was nervous about taking my shirt off for this photo we did a couple months ago. But was kind of relieved after all the nice comments I got.

I feel like I've really started to come out of my shell this year. I've made an effort to take myself out of my comfort zone, develop some style and even dive back into dating (but that's a whole other story). Bobby has said it's like I’m like a whole new person so I guess my new found confidence has really started to show in my daily life.

We all have things we don’t like about our body. The great thing is we can always work to improve ourselves to be happy with the person staring back at us in the mirror everyday.
