2018's Color of the Year Has Been Announced

You'll be seeing A LOT of this color in 2018!

Pantone announced their official pick for the color of 2018, and it's... ULTRA VIOLET! Pretty cool.

The company says the color, "communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us towards the future." The color, also known as “PANTONE 18-3838,” was popular amongst such iconic artists as Prince, David Bowie and Jimi Hendrix so it also represents, "counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance," and is noted for its “mystical or spiritual quality."

“We are living in complex times," Pantone Vice President Laurie Pressman says. "We're seeing the fear of going forward and how people are reacting to that fear." She adds "I see this as very much an optimistic color, an empowering color. We want to find some peace and calm within ourselves. How do we quiet our minds?"

The color can also represent the harmonious joining of two divides, since it's made by combining blue and red, the colors of our opposing political parties. "It’s also the most complex of all colors because it takes two shades that are seemingly diametrically opposed — blue and red — and brings them together to create something new," Leatrice Eiseman,Pantone's executive director, explains.

What does all this mean? Basically, you'll see this particular shade of purple everywhere next year! From clothing stores to home decor accessories, and more!
