Most Americans Making Fitness-Related Resolutions

The New Year is almost upon us, which means plenty of people are once again making New Year’s resolutions, and as usual, for a lot of folks that means getting back in shape.

A new Planet Fitness poll finds:

  • 84% of people plan to make at least one New Year’s resolution for 2021.
  • Of those people, 91% are making a resolution connected to fitness.
  • As for why:
    • 72% want to be healthier.
    • 61% want to feel better about themselves.
    • 54% want to reduce stress.
    • 53% want to look better.
    • 53% want to make positive changes in their lives.
  • 54% of people say their resolution is to stick to a fitness routine, even if it’s just exercising a few minutes a day.
  • And it’s not just physical health and wellness people are concerned about.
  • 50% of people making health and wellness resolutions are focused on both their physical and mental health needs. 

When it comes to mental health, the past year has certainly had some difficult moments

  • The poll finds that 88% of people have at least one thing about 2020 they want to say “good riddance” to.
  • They include:
    • Political and election-related conversations (65%)
    • The Toilet paper crisis (62%)
    • Remote school learning (41%)
  • ONE MORE THING!When it comes to resolutions, people are learning not to beat themselves up if they don’t stick to them. In fact, 51% of those making a resolution are giving themselves permission to get through tough times without any judgment.
