SOME SPORTS FANS TAKE THINGS TOO SERIOUSLY
According to a new study from Oregon State University, some sports fans take things too seriously -- to the point where being a fan is actually an unhealthy addiction.
Researchers looked at fans who change work schedules so they don’t miss games, skip family events to watch their team and consider their love of sports as a key to their identities.
These researchers concluded that these fans are dealing with compulsive behavior, just like people who get hooked on shopping, video games or social media.
On average, these fans spend about 24 hours a week consuming sports, watching games, reading about sports and talking about sports. And, all this attention on sports impacts their relationships with family, friends or co-workers -- and can even mess with their health as they’re skipping meals and not getting enough sleep.
