Summer hasn’t officially kicked off just yet, but it already feels like summer to us. And while you’re enjoying your season of sun, here are a few of the big food trends you’ll see everywhere this summer.
- Session Cocktails - It’s hard to really rosé all day when too many glasses of wine can lead to a major headache, but low-proof cocktails mean you can sip the day away. Get fancy with a Rhubarb, Fennel & Vermouth Cocktail or stick to something you know, like an Aperol Spritz.
- Katsu Sandos - Japanese chicken cutlet sandwiches, also known as chicken katsu sandos are big this season, along with other katsu mashups like katsu rice bowls, katsu burgers and katsu curry.
- Cold brew tonics - A mashup of your beloved iced coffee and sparkling water, a cold brew spritzer is made with equal parts cold brew concentrate and tonic water, add in a dash of citrus and you’ve got a fresh summer pick-me-up.
- Korean flavors - You’ve probably seen more kimchi-topped items on menus lately and this summer you’ll find barbecue gochujang-glazed ribs. Or pick up this flavorful condiment on the international food aisle at your supermarket.
- Dairy-free ice creams that are actually really good - All kinds of ice cream companies have dairy-free versions in grocery stores now, like Ben and Jerry’s and So Delicious and you can find plant-based soft serve shops around too.
- Grüner Veltliner - Wine influencer Heather Gordon explains that this Austrian white wine is an “ultra-clean, crisp sipper that’s fab for balmy days.”
- Elote entrees - This Mexican street corn favorite will be showing up at picnics and barbecues this summer in dishes like Mexican Street Corn Pasta Salad.
- Self-care cocktails - When you want to drink something a little healthier, try trendy kombucha mojitos, adaptogen elixirs and green margaritas.
- CBD Oil goodies - Treats laced with CBD oil, from lattes to ice cream, will be big this season. This stuff if derived from hemp and it’s popular with chefs because it’s legal in all states and only has .3% THC, so it could decrease stress and relieve pain without leaving you down for the count.
