Three of the 14 students killed in last week's shooting spree at a Parkland, Florida high school were cadets, so the Army decided to honor them posthumously for their acts of heroism.
The cadets are 15-year-old Peter Wang and Martin Duque and Alaina Petty, both 14 years old. They're being recognized with the Medal of Heroism for their actions during the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
Peter received another honor on Tuesday, which was the day of his funeral. He was posthumously admitted to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, which he dreamed of attending.
Peter was shot to death while wearing his JROTC uniform last Wednesday, as he held a door open to allow other students to escape. Victoria Downing, one of his classmates, said at Peter's funeral, "He saved people's lives. He deserves it." (South Florida Sun Sentinel)
