New Year’s Resolutions That Celebrate Being Single

Not ringing in the New Year with a significant other on your arm this year? Join the club! Even if you’re not happy to be single, you should embrace your singleness and make the most of it as you welcome 2018. Here are some New Year’s resolutions you can make that celebrate your independence and freedom.

Take yourself out to dinner - When you’re in the mood for that charcuterie board from the corner restaurant but none of your friends are free to go with you, take yourself out and enjoy exactly what you’re craving. Sit at the bar, order a cocktail, and challenge yourself not to pull out your phone while you enjoy your dinner, drink, and chatting with the bartender or other patrons.

Commit to learning a new skill - Take the cooking class you’ve been considering, or spend 20 minutes a day learning Italian with the Duolingo app. Whatever you want to learn to do, your schedule is all yours when you’re single and you can make it happen.

Host a monthly friendship gathering - Make some coffee, serve some wine and cheese, and have your besties over once a month to enjoy each other’s company. It doesn’t have to be fancy, just make a date and make it happen.

Don't self-deprecate based on your relationship status - So don’t joke about how you’re lonely and sad because you’re single if you’re actually quite happy not being in a relationship. It’s easier said than done, but you should be nicer to your single self.

Go on a date, if you want to - Even if you love your single life, spend an evening with a cute date once in a while just to remind yourself what’s out there. Being single can be wonderful so make the most of it with these resolutions for 2018.
