Tom Brady Gets Candid About President Trump

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Tampa Bay Buccaneers' new quarterback Tom Brady opened up about a number of issues during a 2-hour interview with Howard Stern, including his long-term friendship with President Donald Trump.

Speaking on Stern's Sirius XM show, Brady said he first met Trump in 2002 during his early days in New England. At age 24, following his first Super Bowl win, Brady said Trump asked him to be a judge at the Miss USA beauty pageant.

“He just in a way, he would call me after games. ‘I watched your game, Tom. Let’s play golf together.'" Brady said. "So 2003, 2004, that was kind of the way it was."

Brady said Trump "always had a way of connecting with people and still does. But now, the whole political aspect came, and I think I got brought into a lot of those things because it was so polarizing around the election time."

According to Brady, after years of friendship, Trump wanted him to speak at the 2016 Republican National Convention, which the former Patriot said made him feel "uncomfortable."

“It was uncomfortable for me, because you can’t—and not that I would undo a friendship—but the political support is so different than support of a friend.”

Brady said he rejected Trump's request to speak at the 2016 RNC because "there’s zero win in anything in regards to that. It’s politics." Brady added that he "didn’t want to get into the political thing.”

Despite Stern being a known-supporter of Hillary Clinton, the host said he also had to reject Trump's request to speak at the 2016 RNC.
