FOXBORO, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Sunday, the New England Patriots marked the 18th anniversary of the so-called "Snow Bowl" playoff game with a video compilation featuring a familiar voice.
It was on this day in 2002, amid heavy falling snow, the late WBZ NewsRadio Sports Director Gil Santos called one of the most exciting playoff games the Patriots ever had.
It was the famed AFC Championship Game of the 2001 season. The Patriots faced off against the Oakland Raiders for the final game ever at Foxboro Stadium.
Thanks to an overturned fumble, and a low shot by kicker Adam Vinatieri that barely made it over the goal posts, New England went on to win 16-13 in overtime despite the snow.
That year was also a historic time for the team; 2001-2002 was the season that Tom Brady became the Patriots' starting quarterback, and they went on to score their first Super Bowl win against the St. Louis Rams in Super Bowl XXXVI.
