"Razor Blade Wielding Suspect" Arrested In Downtown Boston

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A 26-year-old New Jersey man is facing charges after he allegedly tried to carjack a victim and then chased him through Downtown Boston with a razor blade.

Boston police officers working paid detail Thursday near High Street and Summer Street were approached by a male victim who reported a man had attempted to carjack him shortly before 10 p.m.

The victim said he had returned to his vehicle to find an unknown man inside the car. He said the suspect took the victim's cell phone from the vehicle, got out the vehicle while displaying a razor blade, and continued to chase the victim throughout the area.

"Officers made their way to the area... and when they rounded the corner onto Summer Street, the suspect was walking towards them," BPD said. "The officers observed the male to be holding an apparent item in his right hand as he continued walking towards them. Officers repeatedly shouted for the male to stop, to which he refused, screaming that he wanted the officers to shoot him."

BPD said the suspect "suddenly" charged toward one of the officers, but he was swiftly taken to the ground by another officer at the scene. Officers secured the razor blade the suspect was carrying and placed him under arrest.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, was arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on charges of Assault by means of a Dangerous Weapon, Larceny from a Motor Vehicle, and Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle.
