MILTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A pilot program to take a lane away from Route 28 in Milton to improve road safety will be modified.
Flex posts, installed last fall on Randolph Avenue between Pleasant and Reed Streets, are now set to be removed. MassDOT hoped the bright yellow markers, placed between Pleasant Street and Chickatawbut Road, would reduce crashes on the heavily traveled thoroughfare. But, the road diet seems to have only added to already existing traffic issues, particularly during peak commute times.

One local said the street is "always congested" with "lots of backups."
There is now a new plan to replace the center median between Pleasant and Reed Streets with two-way turn lanes. One resident called the planned change a "great idea."
Data collected about the pilot will be used to determine if officials will make the changes permanent.
