Massachusetts Police Stations Host National Drug Take Back Day

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Saturday October 24th is National Drug Take Back Day, when the public is encouraged to rid their homes of unused and expired prescription drugs.

The Boston Police Department partnered with the Drug Enforcement Administration to offer all Boston residents a dozen safe places to dispose of unwanted prescriptions and over-the-counter medications; at their nearest Boston police station.

"The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day addresses a crucial public safety and public health issue," BPD said. "In fact, according to a recent National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 9.9 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet."

BPD said the public can take part in National Drug Take Back Day by bringing all unwanted medication to any district police station in the city on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Dozens of police departments across the state are offering the drug disposal services on Saturday, including Waltham Police Department, Amesbury Police Department, Holyoke Police Department and Lawrence Police Department.
