BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported another 172 cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the state's total case count to 107,611.
The state DPH also reported an additional 48 deaths attributed to the coronavirus, upping the state's total death toll to 7,938. More than 63 percent of those deaths have been reported at long-term care facilities.
Several important coronavirus health metrics are on the decline in the Commonwealth.
Over the past 30 days, the seven-day average rate of positive molecular coronavirus tests in Massachusetts has dropped 94 percent, and the three-day average number of COVID deaths has fallen by 85 percent.
While Massachusetts' daily case count and death toll continues to gradually decline, many other U.S. states are seeing their case numbers surge, including Arizona, Texas, Florida, and North Carolina.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the U.S. has surpassed 2.3 million cases and 121,000 COVID-related deaths since March, making it the country with the highest coronavirus death toll so far.
