BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Sports fans had something to cheer about Monday morning as Massachusetts expanded capacity limits for large venues -- including stadiums, ballparks and arenas.
The state capacity limit for large venues is now at 25 percent, up from the previous 12 percent limit. That means around 4,900 sports fans can now visit TD Garden to watch the Bruins and the Celtics -- as the arena said extra tickets are being released this week.
Amusement parks are also increasing capacity limits to 50 percent, along with outdoor water parks.
Road races are allowed to resume, as well as youth and adult tournaments for moderate and high-risk sports.
The next phase of reopening is set to take effect on May 29, 2021. On that day, gathering limits are expected to increase to 200 people indoors and 250 people outdoors -- and places like bars and wineries will be able to reopen without having to serve food.
Massachusetts is expected to fully reopen and remove all capacity restrictions on Aug. 1, 2021.
