Gas Line Break Prompts Evacuation At Weymouth's Pope Tower

WEYMOUTH, Mass (WBZ NewsRadio) — A street in Weymouth was closed and prompted evacuation because of gas line break Monday afternoon.

Officials from Weymouth Fire tell WBZ NewsRadio that a construction crew stuck a two inch gas main near 25 Water Street.

That is the location for Pope Towers, a Weymouth Housing Authority building which houses senior residents.

There were no injuries. Fire officials say that the 50 residents living there were safely evacuated for an hour while the building was ventilated. They have since been able to return.

National Grid tells WBZ NewsRadio that crews on scene were able to repair the severed line.
