Coronavirus Death Rate Remains High, Positive Cases Drop

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts Department of Public Health has confirmed another 1,050 cases of coronavirus, upping the state's total number of confirmed cases to 77,793.

Sunday marks the fourth day in a row where the number of newly confirmed cases has decreased in Massachusetts.

The DPH also reported that the rate of COVID-related hospitalizations is hovering at four percent, and the rate of positive coronavirus tests has dropped to nine percent; the lowest daily rate of positive tests so far.

While some important data points appear to be on the decline, Sunday's daily death toll is above average for the past two weeks.

Mass. DPH reported an additional 139 deaths on Sunday, bringing the state's COVID-related death toll to 4,979. More than 3,000 of those deaths have been reported at long-term care facilities.
