PORTLAND, Maine (WBZ NewsRadio) — The U.S. Coast Guard confirms two people recovered from the Atlantic Ocean are dead after an automated emergency beacon was sent Thursday from their Kennebunkport-based fishing boat the Hayley Ann.
After responding to the beacon, the Coast Guard found an empty raft with two people face down in the water about 45 miles southeast of Portland, Maine. The crew of another fishing boat was able to recover the two and bring them to shore.
Authorities say the Hayley Ann capsized activating the ship's emergency locator beacon. A fixed-wing aircraft and two helicopters from Air Station Cape Cod joined in the search, along with the Coast Guard Cutter 'Steelhead.'
Names of the two people who were onboard the ship have not yet been released
