BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Mud season is here in New England, and that means street sweepers (Apr. 1 - Nov. 30) have begun navigating their way down neighborhood roads, cleaning up the accumulated dirty debris left over from what turned out to be a very rough winter.
In Charlestown, residents have a love/hate relationship with street sweeping, understanding the need to clean up the filth that's been covered by snow but also being inconvenienced by parking restrictions, enforcement, and driving delays. "Especially after all the snow we had this winter, there is everything on the sides of the streets," said Jerry, a Charlestown resident. "Yeah, it's time for a clean-up."
Residents are also aware of what can happen if street signs aren't followed. "It's great to get it cleaned," this resident acknowledged. "But that first week, I'm sure a lot of people are going to get nabbed on the ticket front, hopefully not me!" she said.
City officials recommend residents sign up for the city's street sweeping email alerts that can help them avoid getting a ticket or even a tow.
