CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The owners of the Middle East in Cambridge is looking to develop the property that houses the nightclub.

In a statement, the nightclub said they "will remain running and open as usual" and that they would continue to give updates "through this process."

"The Middle East business is here to stay and will be a part of any development at 472-480 Mass Ave," the statement said.

In 2018, WBZ NewsRadio reported that the former co-owner of the property, Joseph Sater, stepped down amid accusations of sexual assault. He denied the allegations.

“We can say, unequivocally, that the allegations being spread online are absolutely not true and that just being publicly accused is absolutely devastating,” the venue said in a statement back in 2018. “We have worked hard to create a warm, respectful, safe — and, as a music venue — fun work environment. We always strive to do better and we sincerely apologize if any current or former employees have not had a positive experience or have felt unsafe.”
