ABINGTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Due to the pandemic, Halloween will look very different this year with the CDC recommending to curtail trick-or-treating because of COVID-19 and restrictions here in the commonwealth about the size of gatherings.

But one South Shore business involved in horror, Barrett's Haunted Mansion, is trying to make the best of a bad situation.

Owner Mary Barrett Costello, as well as her actors, have been in the business for the last three decades. But this year, plans have changed.

"It really has become a right of passage for so many people," Costello said.

Although there will not be a mansion this year, Mary and her cast have pivoted.

"It's just a different ballgame, it's just different," Costello said.

They plan to host a drive-in theatre with creature double-features on two giant screens every Friday and Saturday with an added layer of fright from the Barrett's crew.

"So this is what we've come up with: people watching scary movies and people still being scared by our characters that are roaming the grounds," Costello said.
