Hundreds Rally For Abortion Rights At State House

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Hundreds of supporters of abortion rights marched on Beacon Hill Tuesday in lock-step with women across the nation.

They spoke out against recently-enacted laws restricting abortion rights in several other states, including Alabama, which signed a near-total ban on abortions, and Mississippi, Ohio, Kentucky, and Georgia, which signed so-called "heartbeat" bills.

Antigone Woodland, an OB/GYN nurse who was part of the protest, told WBZ NewsRadio's Mike Macklin those new laws in other states are part of an effort to overturn Roe v. Wade.

"GOP has been working toward this for a very long time, and we're just catching up," she said. "I think we need to be out here in the streets expressing our displeasure, and calling our legislators both at the state and the federal level to tell them how we feel about the issue, because the other side is doing that en masse."

Zoey Fasolo said she's championed aboriton rights since the 1980s, when she worked as a women's health clinic escort.

"It's just frightening, the differences or the changes that the government is making," she said. "I mean, abortion is almost basically illegal in what, five states now? It's just taking away women's rights, and it's for men that are making all these decisions."

"I'm actually quite frightened about what's going to happen," she added.
