Sleep is a pretty big deal and losing it can greatly impact your overall health.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, over 70 million Americans are sleep deprived.
Sleep medicine specialist Dr. Nancy Foldvary-Schaefer stressed the importance of a good night's rest, detailing which sectors of our health are harmed most when we lose sleep.
"Sleep is foundational to health and wellness. We know that getting enough sleep and getting enough good sleep is necessary for cardiovascular health, metabolic health and even brain health. During periods of sleeplessness, hidden health hazards accumulate that can’t be covered up with concealer or reversed with caffeine. Everything from your cardiovascular system to your immune system feels the impact."
Signs and symptoms of sleep deprivation include exhaustion, excessive yawning, and not feeling refreshed upon waking, to name only a few.
Clearly, sleep is very important, but there is one place in Massachusetts where residents simply aren't getting enough of it.
Per an infographic created by Charlotte's Web, Worcester County is the most sleep-deprived place in all of Massachusetts. 39% of Worcester County adults reported an average of fewer than seven hours of sleep each night.
