Weekend To Do October 14-15: Harvest Festivals To Howl-O-Ween Pet Parades

BOSTON (WBZNewsRadio) - After what feels weeks upon weeks of rainy weekends, there is hope on the horizon for this weekend. Cooler air moves into the region Friday evening into Saturday morning, which could bring some showers Saturday evening into early Sunday. It'll be breezy but the sun will try it's hardest to peak through the cloud cover.

Meantime it's another weekend of disruptions on the MBTA's Red Line with shuttle busses replacing rail service between Ashmont and JFK/UMass starting Saturday Oct. 14th and running through the 29th. During the closure, the T is offering free service on the Fairmont Commuter Rail.

SATURDAY

Boston Veg-Food Festival

Vegetarian and Vegan dishes will be on full display this weekend at the annual Boston Veg Food Fest, bringing a number of plant-based food, lifestyle products, speakers and chefs to the Reggie Lewis Center both Saturday and Sunday. Organizers say weather permitting, there will be plenty of outdoor seating for those hoping to chow-down on food bought at the event.

Chatham Kids Film Festival

It's the first-of-its-kind film festival and it's coming to the Cape this weekend. With a number of films, documentaries, and talks planned over the course of Saturday, you can either buy individual tickets or opt for a wristband that will give you access to the entire festival.

Patriot Place Hosts Ocean Spray's 13th Annual Fall Harvest Celebration

Fall has officially arrived at Patriot Place, as the facility is hosting Ocean Spray's annual Fall Harvest Celebration this Saturday. There are a number of events across the area, including a cranberry harvest, photo-ops with the New England Patriots Cheerleaders, free pony rides, live music, pickle ball, pumpkin painting and even pumpkin pong! If you're a regular at Patriot Place, there are a number of special offers through the Advantage App including the chance to win free tickets to the Patriots and New England Revolution, a $100 gift card, and don't forget to "check in" to get free bonus points.

Salem Halloween Pet Parade

It'll be a howling good time in Salem this weekend and no we're not talking werewolves, but man's best friend. The Howl-a-ween Pet Parade returns to Derby Street and brings pets from all over the region to strut their stuff. If you're hoping to show off your pets costume, organizers ask that you register in advance if at all possible.

SUNDAY

Baystate Marathon/Half-Marathon

On your mark, get ready, go! This Sunday is the 35th annual Baystate Marathon and Half Marathon, that is "For Runners, By Runners." This year there's a brand new finish line experience, offering runners a glimpse at their name and finishing time as they cross the line.

East Boston Open Streets

Part of Meridian Street will go car free this weekend, as the Open Streets initiative comes to East Boston. Meridian Street will be pedestrian only from Maverick to Porter and Bennington Street. By the way, this is the last one of the year.

Abington Dog Park Howl-o-ween

Another day another pet costume parade, this time in Abington. Organizers say it's one of the most popular events in the area for several years running. Not only will people be able to enter their dogs into the Canine Costume Contest and parade, but there is also a Best-Dressed Stuffed Animal Contest for kids.
