Brandi Carlile Might Have Manifested This Moment With 'My Heroes'

Brandi Carlile might have manifested a major milestone with two of her musical heroes.

The powerhouse singer-songwriter shared a snippet of her collaboration with country music icon Tanya Tucker as the song released on Tuesday (May 30), a few days before Tucker’s next album makes its debut. “Breakfast In Birmingham” marked a watershed moment for Carlile, and the reason is twofold. She got to sing with Tucker and write the track with Bernie Taupin.

“Writing this song with [Bernie Taupin] for [Tanya Tucker] was like getting a bear hug from my heroes… I used to promise myself when I was a weird little girl that I would learn to write songs so I could grow up and write even just one with Bernie Taupin,” Carlile reflected in her Instagram caption on Tuesday afternoon. “Simultaneously I was singing San Antonio Stroll and trying to sing like I’d smoked a pack so I could go toe to toe with Tanya mother Tucker. God was pretty on the nose with this one man! Holy sh*t! It happened!”

Carlile also included a “high five” to Shooter Jennings, who produced the album with her. Tucker’s Sweet Western Sound — a 10-track collection that she announced shortly after it was confirmed that she would be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum this year — is set to release on Friday (June 2).
