Morgan Wallen apologized to concertgoers for canceling a show on short notice on Sunday night (April 23). The country star said in a statement on his Instagram story that he was unable to sing that night, despite rest, vocal exercises and help from his doctor throughout the day.

“After last night’s show I started losing my voice so I spent the day resting up, talking to my doctor and working through my vocal exercises trying to get better,” reads the statement on Wallen's Instagram story, shared on Sunday evening. “I really thought I’d be able to take the stage and it kills me to deliver this so close to showtime, but my voice is shot and I am unable to sing. All tickets will be refunded at point of purchase. I am so sorry, I promise you guys I tried everything I could.”

It happened in Oxford, Mississippi, where Wallen was slated to play back-to-back nights at Vaught Hemingway Stadium. Thousands of concertgoers saw a message displayed at the venue: “Ladies and gentlemen, unfortunately, Morgan has lost his voice and is unable to perform tonight. Therefore, tonight’s show has been canceled. Please make your way safely to the stadium exits,” per Jackson, Mississippi-based WLBT. Some concertgoers took to social media to vent frustration and anger over the cancelation, particularly after Wallen’s openers already performed and the headliner dropped out last-minute, shortly before he was set to take the stage. The Associated Press notes that Wallen’s show the previous night was the first concert in the Ole Miss football stadium’s history.

Wallen is currently on his “One Night At A Time World Tour,” with special guests HARDYParker McCollumERNEST and Bailey Zimmerman. The global trek comes after Wallen dropped his highly-anticipated, massive 36-track album last month.
