Phase Three: Here's What Changes This Week In Massachusetts

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — While dozens of U.S. states have reported recent spikes in coronavirus cases and deaths, Massachusetts has seen continually improving COVID-19 health metrics over the past month.

As the state Department of Public Health confirms, the 3-day average rate of COVID-related deaths in Massachusetts has declined by 89 percent over the past 30 days. The 7-day weighted average rate of positive coronavirus tests has also dropped by 94 percent since the start of June.

According to Gov. Charlie Baker, that progress means Phase Three of the state's economic reopening plan can begin on Monday, July 6th.

Here's a list of what can reopen during Phase Three in Massachusetts.

Businesses

  • Libraries can allow browsing
  • Casinos can reopen gaming floors and theaters, with restrictions
  • Horse racing tracks and simulcast facilities
  • Fitness centers and health clubs, including personal trainers
  • Movie Theaters
  • Museums
  • Aquariums
  • Theaters and performance venues, such as concert halls (Step 1; outdoors, Step 2; indoors.)
  • Non-athletic instructional classes in arts / education / life skills for all age groups
  • Outdoor event spaces used for gatherings and celebrations such as weddings, including those in parks, reservations, and other outdoor spaces that are not designated as Phase 4
  • Motion picture, television and streaming production
  • Fraternal Orders if hosting an event in accordance with Indoor and Outdoor Events guidance

Recreation & Outdoors

  • Limited organized youth and adult amateur sports programs and activities, indoor and outdoor for all ages, with limitations
  • Other indoor recreation Step 1: activities with low potential for contact (batting cages, driving ranges, go karts, bowling alleys, rock-climbing walls) Step 2: activities with greater potential for contact (laser tag, roller skating, trampolines, obstacle courses)
  • Sightseeing and other organized tours (bus tours, duck tours, harbor cruises, whale watching)
  • Indoor historical spaces / sites
  • Fishing and hunting tournaments and other amateur or professional derbies
