Average COVID-19 Death Rate Drops In Massachusetts

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — With an additional 125 cases of coronavirus reported on Sunday, Massachusetts has surpassed 107,000 cases of COVID-19.

The state DPH also reported another 30 deaths attributed to the virus, bringing the state's death toll to 7,858 since mid-March.

Several important COVID-19 health metrics have been gradually reducing over the past month.

Since the end of May, the state's seven-day weighted average rate of positive tests has dropped by 93 percent. The number of hospitals using surge capacity has fallen by 90 percent, and the three-day average number of COVID deaths has also gone down by 86 percent.

While Massachusetts' rate of positive tests has been on the decline since the start of the month, many other states across the U.S. are seeing their case numbers spike this weekend, including Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Alabama, and Oklahoma.
