BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston Planning and Development Agency approved a massive project Thursday meant to transform what’s currently the site of a Stop & Shop grocery store and shopping plaza into a mixed-use development.

The proposed 'Allston Yards' development would include housing, shops, offices, and green space. This would be change from the sprawling parking lot, TJ Maxx, and Dollar Tree currently at 60 Everett St.

According to their website, the BPDA says the "redevelopment will create a new neighborhood at the nexus, of Allston, Brighton, and the new Boston Landing district."

Some Allston-Brighton residents, however, are not happy with the idea.

“I think there are enough new expensive housing developments that have already gone up in Brighton, and we are in no need of some kind of other high rise,” one resident from Brighton said.

Seventeen percent of the housing units are set to be fixed income.

The project currently does not have final approval from the city, and there is no public timeline yet.
