Dave Mustaine Continues Work On New Megadeth Album During Cancer Treatment

Dave Mustaine's recent throat cancer diagnosis and treatment isn't keeping him from continuing work on the next Megadeth album.

Drummer Dirk Verbeuren recently shared a photo via Instagram from the studio of Mustaine recording guitars during production for what will be the legendary metal band's 16th studio album.

"[Dave Mustaine] doing what he does best: riff like a king," Verbeuren wrote in the caption.

The band is recording at a studio in Franklin, Tennessee. Bassist Dave Ellefson described its location as "next door" to the front man's property, ideal for the workaholic Mustaine, who can easily dip into the studio when he feels well enough.

Mustaine, his family and his band mates feel optimistic about the heavy metal icon's treatment and recovery. In order to allow Mustaine to focus on his treatment, the band canceled all the remaining concerts on its calendar, with the exception of the inaugural MegaCruise, which sets sail October 13 - 18.

It's unclear how involved Mustaine will be in the cruise, given his health, but he has assured fans that the band will be involved "in some form."
