LAWRENCE, MA (WBZ-AM) — As the first storm of the season blew in, people living in trailers set up on the O’Connell Common in Lawrence saw their pipes freeze, compromising water supply.

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency said it is installing new equipment to ensure Thursday night’s incident does not happen again.

The common is surrounded by a chain link fence and a pass is needed to get in. A resident, Jose, signed reporters in show how his water does not work.

“It reminds me of when I’m in the Dominican Republic,” Jose said. “You take a little bucket of water and shower up, and all that. It’s sad, but it’s the situation.”

Jose said this has been an ongoing problem as temperatures drop.
