Senior Abuse Registry Bill Held Up At State House

BOSTON, Mass (WBZ NewsRadio) — A group holding an ongoing vigil wants to make it harder for caregivers who abuse their patients to find another job.

The abuse registry Bill would create a registry for those who have been found guilty of abusing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. It’s also known as "Nicky‘s Law" named after Cheryl Ryan Chan’s son, a 26-year-old disabled man who was abused by his caregiver.

The law was passed the Senate unanimously in August, but is now hung up in the house ways and means committee.

Supporters say they will hold vigils at the Statehouse every day until it passes through the full house.
