Patriots' Loss To Titans Could Prevent Landing AFC's Top Seed

BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- The Chiefs lost to the Patriots 43-40 about a month ago but, aside from that, they've been perfect. Kansas City's 9-1 after its fourth straight win, while New England's loss in Tennessee dropped the defending AFC champs to 7-3 entering its bye.

Bill Belichick and Tom Brady were anything but satisfied after a 34-10 pounding.

"Titans did a better job than we did in every part of the game, every phase of the game, so, not a good day for us," Belichick said. "We got a lot of work to do here, lot of football left to go. Obviously we didn't do much of anything well today."

"They did a good job," Brady said. "They executed well. Obviously we didn't. It was just a bad day for all of us. Have to learn from it, and give them a lot of credit. They made a lot of plays, kind of played from ahead, right where they wanted to be. We just couldn't do enough early offensively to put any pressure on that."

The Pats still lead the division by two games. They'll make the playoffs. That's not a concern.

But, two games behind the Chiefs, it's unlikely the Patriots will rally for the top seed in the conference in time for the playoffs, which would mean a possible game in KC in January with a trip to the Super Bowl on the line. So long as the Pats do their job from here.

But, right now, not even the second bye is a comfortable consolation, with the Steelers and Texans all in the mix for that spot.
