Registry of Motor Vehicles Warns Public of Fraudulent Website

BOSTON, Mass (WBZ-AM) -- The Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles is cautioning customers to be certain they are using the official RMV website to renew a license or vehicle registration or conduct other business with the registry.

The registry's official website is mass.gov/rmv.

Log on there and you can renew your driver's license or vehicle registration, schedule a road test or process any other official RMV transaction.

But the registry says there are other unofficial third-party websites, so-called mimic sites, that advertise similar services but have no affiliation with the registry.

Any information on these websites may not be accurate, and any information or payments that customers submit to them may not be secure.

The registry says it will never charge a customer to check the status of a license, registration, or title or to access registry forms.

If the site requires payment to access this information, it is an unsecured mimic site.
