BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Why didn't Malcolm Butler play in the Patriots' Super Bowl loss to the Eagles? Even months later, no one who knows for certain is saying. Bill Belichick may be the only one capable, but now former Pats receiver Danny Amendola never got an answer from his coach, and he still doesn't understand it.

Amendola was a guest on the Barstool Sports "Comeback SZN" podcast.

"You know, I know we had 50-some-odd, 40-some-odd guys dressed up for the game," Amendola said. "For whatever reason he felt, he's the coach, I can't make that decision, I can only do my job and focus in on my job, but in hindsight, it's really like, what agenda are we on? It's something that, I'll probably never really understand it."

He also compared Belichick to his new Dolphins coach Adam Gase.

"Coach Gase is one of the guys, one of the boys, and you wanna fight hard for your boys," he said. "Back in New England, it's almost like you got a principal in the principal's office, you know, in a good way, and in a bad way too."

Amendola did call Belichick one of the best coaches of all-time. He spent five years in New England before inking a two-year, 12-million dollar deal with Miami. Amendola said he didn't sense outside-the-norm friction in Foxborough last season.
