BOSTON (WBZ-AM) -- Chris Sale's started 15 games this season, and limited his opponents to--at most--one run in nine of them. Still, Boston's 8-and-7 when the ace takes the mound, since his run support has been terribly inconsistent.
Sale will toe the rubber tonight in the Red Sox' series-opener in Minnesota at 8:10 p.m. The lefty's actually struggled in 13 career outings at Target Field with a 4.60 ERA.
But, it's Chris Sale. Here's Mitch Moreland on just what makes the southpaw so good:
"He's been unbelievable for us," Moreland said. "Every time he takes the mound, you know what he's going to bring. He knows what it takes to win, and he's one of the best pitchers in the game--if not the best, in my opinion, and it seems like he gets better and better every start."
Sale's allowed two runs and struck out 19 his last two starts. The Twins will counter with Jose Berrios. The righty has a 2.47 ERA his last six starts, but he lost his only career outing against the Red Sox. Boston tagged Berrios for four runs over six-and-a-third innings last year in a 4-1 win at Fenway.
