These Are The Best Outdoor Summer Attractions In MA, According To New List

For almost half a century, Yankee magazine’s “Best of New England” summer travel guide has showcased the region’s must-visit destinations and diversions. This year, they’re focusing on “fresh-air escapes” with a special Outdoor Edition.

Here are the nine Massachusetts spots that made the list of top outdoor attractions from across New England:

Stodder’s Neck State Park, Hingham

Their selection for dog excursion. “Dog owners up and down the South Shore know this 23-acre park as the place to bring their pets for social play,” the magazine says.

Mendon Twin Drive-In, Mendon

Their selection for drive-in theater. “You’ll not only enjoy a deftly curated collection of first-run and vintage movies but also primo concessions,” the magazine says.

Island Alpaca Company, Oak Bluffs

Their selection for farm animal fun. The magazine says the 50-plus Huacaya alpacas at this Martha’s Vineyard farm are bred to be winners and socialized to be gentle and friendly towards kids.

Walden Pond State Reservation, Concord

Their selection for nature outing. The magazine suggests getting there early, as the parking lot fills up quickly.

Todd Farm Flea Market, Rowley

Their selection for outdoor flea market. This north shore attraction, which has been around for nearly half a century, offers free parking and 200-plus vendors. It’s a go to for “treasure hunters.”

Old Sturbridge Village, Sturbridge

Their selection for outdoor museum. Now celebrating its 75th year, New England’s largest outdoor living history museum features costumed historians, heritage animal breeds and historical craft classes.

Crumpin-Fox Club, Bernardston

Their selection for public golf course. “Crumpin-Fox (named for a local 19th-century soda company) is not only one of Massachusetts’s most challenging courses but also one of its loveliest,” the magazine says.

Parlee Farms, Tyngsboro

Their selection for pick-your-own fruit farm. The magazine suggests visiting this 93-acre farm in June to pick strawberries and enjoy old-fashioned shortcake, or July for both blueberries and sweet cherries.

Catamount Zip Tour, South Egremont

Their selection for zipline. The Catamount Mountain Resort’s two-hour zip trek starts with a chairlift ride, followed by the longest point-to-point zipline in the country at 5,523 feet.
